46 officers accept proposals. Unofficered members refuse to sanction until Report of Retrenchment Commission.
Commer. suggests immediate payment of half amount & mild contribution reduced as temporary measure. Difficulty at an end.
(Minutes.)
M. Tarfield
22 out of 46 officers (out of 127, or 193 including Police) are willing to accept instead of 22 reported in 3336; but this Council refuses to sanction pending report of Retrenchment Committee.
As to that proposed Committee, vide despatch 15922/9.
The expected retirement of M. O'Brien has not come about, but perhaps the Committee suggested by the Governor in this telegram, consisting of Mr. Ackroyd (Chairman), two unofficials, & prominent merchant Rann, can be approved at once; why not?
